Granville Towers

Can someone give me some info on living in Granville as an incoming first year student? Would u recommend it for a first year or transfer? Is it cheaper to live there then in the dorms? IS it social? Any info u can give would be helpful.....THANKS ALL

It's pretty much the same price to live there than in dorms, I think last year it was actually a tiny bit cheaper. Are you trying to go Greek? If so, then this is the place for you because the majority of freshman there try and go Greek. It's definitely social, RAs there are a lot more lax than on campus. However, Granville people kind of stick together because you have a separate cafeteria, a pool, etc..

I personally think the rooms I've been in look like a cheap motel but it's really up to each person and how they set it up. It's all a personal choice.

gator2008 - My daughter stayed there last year and she really liked it. She actually had more friends on campus than at Granville. She lived in the East building and I believe it is a lot quieter than the other buildings except for the loud noise that comes from frat court. It is close to Frankilin Street and classes. She loved the Agora (cafeteria) at Granville. The rooms are a little dated, but you have to do your own decorating. I am not sure what will happen to Granville during the 2009-2010 school year, since UNC has purchased the Granville buildings. Anyway, my daughter moved on campus this year to be close to the hospital - for volunteering purposes and her friends were staying on campus. First, she was assigned to a supersuite at Morrison, but she changed it to Rams Village a couple of weeks ago. I guess she will have a hike to classes next year, but she said she didn't mind.

which dorms would u guys recommend for an OOS transfer?...who would like to have the freshman experience since this will b my first time on campus away from home since I went to a CC about 2 blocks away from home

hojo, craige=freshman experience dorms

agreed, c-raige is definitely the freshman experience.

People puking, random girls crying/being comforted by fellow drunkees, loud noises in general, etc.

ehringhaus! loved it there last year!

yeah, if you want the freshman experience (that doesn't involve a frat or a sorority, granted), definitely choose a big south campus dorm. they're really social because most people are freshmen so they don't know anyone either. i'd only advise living in granville if you're planning on rushing..the people i know who didn't go greek and lived there hated it.
i do have a couple guy friends who are moving there next year solely so they don't have to deal with RAs and can basically operate an ABC store in their dorm room haha..

how about morrison....i saw the pics n i really like it...ne advice on that dorm??

leah would u rec granville if i were doing an nphc

I live in Granville and didn't go Greek, and never felt out of place for not being Greek. There seem to be plenty of us around that didn't rush. I love it there and the convenience and closeness to Franklin St. and classes is great. The Agora is pretty good, especially considering its downstairs and from what I hear, it's much better than the on-campus dining halls. If you have any questions feel free to send me a msg.
