what's the deal with granville towers?

Don't do it unless you plan on rushing. That's my advice.

yeah i do plan on rushing.

You're from Alabama and want to rush, sounds like good option for you. Rooms aren't any better or worse than most campus rooms. Food is comparable too. Location is good. Very fratty, southern, and party heavy.

it's not for everyone, but some people (including several friends of mine) love it there!

granville west is where the party's at.

whaltimore---i'm mainly going to UNC to escape the southern influence of other southern schools...I don't really fit into the whole southern stereotype. but im sure at UNC it's very limited compared to what I've been exposed to, right?

thanks!!! and i DO plan on partying! work hard=play hard

Yeah, I have several friends who are not the types that like going to frat parties and they are all trying to live on campus next year. I hear it's fun for people that are into that kind of thing though.

I wouldn't worry about it being too southern, I mean it's not Ole Miss or anything. I just meant southern in the sense that Greek system here tends to have more of a southern vibe in comparison to other groups/cliques on campus. It probably won't be a big deal to you--you'll have fun.

lulu

Since you are OOS, I would be cautious about Granville. Look it up in the CC archives, there are numerous posts about it being populated mainly with in state kids who already know each other and are looking to continue their HS experience. There was a very long thread last year that dealt with a bad OOS experience at Granville.

Granville has its own meal plan which precludes you from eating meals with friends on campus unless you choose to use cash or flex bucks from an on campus meal plan.

I seriously would advise you to proceed with real caution regarding Granville. I think you'll have an overall better freshman experience living on campus.

would u recommend granville for an oos transfer

No. (10 char)

Granville definitely attracts a certain crowd, but I have no idea if you would want to be in it or not!

Just know that if you decide you don't like it halfway through the year you're a little screwed with housing on campus because you'll count as a freshmen the next year... although I'm not sure if that's true anymore since it's technically owned by Carolina now.

thanks guys....my thinking is rams heads is the best spot for someone who wants to live on campus and doesnt want a traditional dorm

Granville has more in common with a traditional dorm, from what I've seen.

Granville is great. I know a few OOS transfers who live in Granville and they all have a great time there. Definately underrated by most CC types, but the perception on campus is that Granville is the place to be if you want to have fun and live in a good location.

Additionally, Granville’s food is typically envied by many of the on-campus people, and you can easily allow guests to eat with you depending on what meal plan you choose. The rooms aren’t great, but in my mind everything else about it is.

is granville cheaper then rams head

^^do you mean ram village (the student apartment complex)?

yea lol…my mistake

hey i have a question about granville! i know it’s not really a traditional dorm, so does that mean you can’t go potluck if you room there? do you have to have a roommate picked out already?

No, as far as I know you don’t need a roommate picked out already. I know a couple of people in granville who went potluck.
