I am looking for suggestions for a graphic design program for a student that has a 3.0 but has a decent design portfolio. Test scores will probably be low average. He is just not a good test taker. He wants the university experience and would like to play volleyball for school team or on a club team. Thanks

What state are you located? Two that come to mind are U. of Cincinnati, and Virginia Commonwealth U. (but VCU is now rated #4 in the country for public art programs, so it’s difficult to get into even with an exceptional portfolio -avg. Gpa is 3.3-3.4). Do have he/she prep well for the ACT or SAT. I know you said probably avg. test scores, but they will make a significant difference in being able to get into the schools with slightly higher avg. accepted GPA’s. So prep, prep, prep. See Xiggi’s method on the SAT threads posted at top.

This thread also has some good info. and you may want to post question here. You are likely to get some better leads. Do include your state, and what you think you can afford.

Thanks… He is in California but is open to going anywhere. I did post to the fine arts forum. Hopefully some suggestions there!

Take a look at ASU (Arizona State) they have a really good graphic design program and great intramural sports. I think that 3.0 in core classes just makes the cut off. http://design.asu.edu/

Think he has at shot at U Cincinnati. AZ is a great suggestion too.

Get started early on the art supplements, they are often due a month before the actual applications are due. Good luck!
