HEy, I just want any info that any of you can give me about the Graphic Design program at RIT, especially the MFA program. First, what's up with the 'minor' thing? Do you have to minor in something (I'm not trying to get out of it, I think it's a fun idea, but am curious how it works)? Can you double minor? And what about the 12 units of 'Liberal Arts' required? What classes are there to make that exciting if you don't feel like taking all 12 in art history?

I just recieved the catelog, and so far I am completely sold, aside from the freezing temperatures. I'm looking at an MFA in Graphic Design with a minor in either Print Media or Intaglio Printmaking.

Unfortunately, I know nothing about the specifics of the program but the not-for-profit I work for just finished working with some RIT students who did a complete Media Materials program for an internship. It was really great. They designed the logo, all the brochures, letterhead, web site etc. for this group. They were completely professional and did just a great job. I was very impressed (and it looked like fun work too).

My d is a GD major. She hasn't decided what to minor in yet, but may do communications (has some other choices in mind). I don't know about the grad program. For undergrad, you have to choose a Liberal Arts minor (5 classes) or a Liberal Arts concentration (3 classes). These are in addition to the required core LA classes. She had misunderstood this system and originally thought she could minor in advertising photography but she has to choose from LIberal Arts... I suggest you call RIT. She has found the GD dept to be very helpful.
