Graphic Design Public Schools?

Hey guys, I'm looking into public schools for Graphic Design (or something in that sort of field; e.g. Illustration, Web Design). I can't seem to get good info on it, because each university really IS unique when it comes to arts and I want to get to a good design school with the most opportunity. I swear I read somewhere about ASU having a good program, so I was looking into it, but now I can't confirm that. If you guys have a rankings list, or any insight on what PUBLIC colleges are best, I would love that.

I have a decent portfolio built up, and I've won some design competitions, but I don't have enough money chances are to go to a good private school like Pratt or any of those kind.

Any help is appreciated, I'm just trying to decide where to apply.

Also, how much of a factor do SATs, ACTs, and GPA play in public schools for art and design? I know private schools pretty much don't care at all, but do public schools approach it differently? None of mine are terrible, they could even help me. I received a 1970 on my first SAT and plan to take it again, and my GPA is decent.

Anyways, thanks :D

U of Cin DAAP? it’s grades heavy but you are cleared, I think.
taxguy could tell all about it.
trouble is if you are out of state, it won’t be cheap.
UCLA, UMic, MassArt all the same.
are you looking into straight to major program or declare at soph or Junior kind?
that would narrow your choices.
if you want straight in, you should not cut off private schools too quick.
with your scores and grades plus stellar portfolio, better chance of getting merit aid and institutional grants.
if your folks are poor enough, for example, that Pratt could become the most ‘doable’
I know it is hard to believe, but it is, sometimes even with living costs if you are out of state anyways.
SCAD, KCAI, PNCA, Parsons(surprise surprise) are good merit givers. If you like any of these schools, just give it a shot, so you will have more options.
and if you do digital and are super duper stellar student but not telling us, CMU and Upenn, great need-based grants givers.
