Ok so next year I am taking AP Stat and I need a graphing calculator now. I don't really care about the minor differences in cost and I rather just get a good one rather than having to buy a new one in the future. I was thinking of getting a TI 89 or a TI Nspire or the new TI Nspire CX. I rather just pay for the CX( same price as TI 89), but I just wanted to know..will it be too advanced for a high schooler and will I just get lost during class? I am willing to review how to use it before school starts. I never really used a graphing calculator before(barely) so I have the freedom to start at any calculator. Which should I get? helpp

edit: also do I get a CAS or no? I want to be able to use it on standardized tests too. What difference does it even make?

I wouldn’t recommend getting a TI-89 for AP Stats. I would strongly recommend getting a version of TI-84, perhaps getting the “plus” or “silver” editions for it also. You can also use the 84 for standardized tests, and it’s not nearly as complex as an 89. An 84 has literally everything needed for AP Stats (including chi-square GOF tests, which some older calculators don’t have), so be sure to get a TI-84 of some sort! Since you don’t care about the price get the best one of its kind!

I agree with agamemnon, the TI-83/84 would be best for AP Stat. While my AP Stat book was written with both the Nspire and 84 in mind, the 84 is easier to use.

Keep in mind that the TI-89 and Nspire with CAS are not allowed on the ACT.

Your allowed to use the newer version of the TI Nspire CX on the tests however. I know some people will be using their TI Nspire so I figure I should just get the newer version. Also, I might wanna do up to say Calculus 4 in college, so I rather buy one that would be appropriate for the rest of my life ?

TI-84 plus silver edition!
