Graphing Calculator

Hey I'm starting Ap Calculus Ab and I need a reccomendation for a good graphing calculator. I prefer Texas Instrument. And my budget is $70-100. TIA! :)

83, 83 Plus, 84. Doesn’t make much of a difference. I think 84 Silver might not be allowed in some places? Correct me if I’m wrong.

You can get a TI-83 Plus for just under $100 in many places. I think it’s about $95 on Amazon right now.

I used an 83+ for calc BC. Don’t bother getting something super expensive cause graphing calculators are sometimes banned by some college professors. I personally didn’t see any difference between the 83+ and 84 series. If you really want a calculator that can do pretty much everything, get an 89 Titanium (I actually own one and I figured out how to do a lot of crap on it, but I rarely use it).

I definitely want a calculator that is acceptable to ap exams, sat, and college. So 83, 83+, and 84 is reccomended by all. Are there major differences between each model?

I would go with the TI 84 over the TI 83. The 84 has about 3 times more memory than the 83, and has a processor that is roughly 2.5 times the speed of an 83. This extra boost in memory and processor speed can be extremely useful if one were to download programs and apps.

TI-89. So awesome.

^Seconded on the TI-89 Titanium. That calculator is god. But sometimes it is banned by teachers/colleges due to its Computer Algebra System so you have to watch out. It is also banned on the ACT. However it is allowed on all Collegeboard tests (SAT Reasoning Test, SAT Subject Tests, AP Tests) which allow the use of a calculator

^thanks for the mention but that totally exceeds my budget.

^^Oh, I didn’t know the College Board allowed the 89! If only I had learned this junior year.

I like my 84-plus.

While the functions of the 83 plus and 84 are pretty similar (except for a few very advanced stats functions on the 84), the 83 plus has bigger and less noisy keys. Especially if you are used to an 83 plus, the 84 will only be a pain in the butt. i received an 84 as a gift, but I am loyal to my 83 plus.

TI-86 is underrated

get an 84

That’s probably the lamest $100 gift I’ve ever heard of.

^how is the TI 86 underrated??

This post may be totally useless…but if you’re on a budget which you don’t want to spend at all, and your school will allow you to “borrow” the calculator for SATs/ACTs and stuff. There’s a free graphing calculator just for homework and stuff here…

On google theres different versions of essentially the same thing; just a cool link I found while I was broke and had homework due.

Nobody ever mentions it. It’s a good calculator.

TI 84 Plus Silver has awesome games on it for when you’re bored in class, and TI 90 solves calculus problems for you, as long as you plug in the numbers.

Are graphing calculators allowed on the SAT - in my case, the TI-84?

^
Yes.
