GRE Physics for engineering grad programs

Hey guys, I was just wondering whether it would be worthwhile for me to take the GRE physics test for grad programs in mechanical engineering.

I graduated from a british university and my grades are good. But since I graduated from a british university, I'm afraid admissions committees won't recognize it (it's quite prestigious in UK, but I'm not sure if it's well recognized in US), so I'm thinking getting a good score on GRE physics will help make my university and my grades seem more credible.

I know most engineering grad programs don't actually GRE subject tests, but I'm thinking it could help if you score well on it. For example, for Cornell's engineering physics program, taking GRE Physics is "advised" for phd applicants (but not masters applicants).
