GRE question

I posted a few weeks ago about scoring sort of "meh" on the verbal portion of the GRE -- a 580. I thus registered to go through the wonderful ETS experience again.

My question is this: I received my analytical writing score in the mail today; it is a 6. Now, if I do well on my next GRE in verbal, yet somehow (and this is entirely plausible) do not score as well on the analytical section, which score is taken into account by grad schools?

I know they usually take the highest of GRE scores, but does this mean OVERALL exam score PARTICULAR scores from each exam?

For example:

Test 1: 200v, 200q, 6 awa
Test 2: 800v, 800q, 3 awa

Is the "3" the official score or the "6"????

I would say that they would take the best overall score, but I think it depends on the schools that you're applying to. But if your particular hypothetical situation was the case, I bet they would look on both, and would be wondering how in the hell can somebody who got 200 in both verbal and quantitative the first time around somehow (and magically) be able to 800's on both the next time they took the exams, and how could somebody that supposedly had a college degree get 200 on the quantitative part, where even high school freshmen can probably easily manage at least 200 points better.
