Hi guys, I just took my GRE score last week and I'm wondering if I should retake it. However, the deadlines for assistanceships are less than a month away. I am a Mechanical Engineering undergrad from Purdue.

GPA & coreGPA: 3.54

Verbal: 158
Quant: 160
AW: still waiting

I have had research experience in HVAC and am currently researching in the area of combustion. I do believe that I will get solid LORs.

Schools I am applying to:
GeorgiaTech
Purdue
Wisconsin Madison
UIUC
Michigan - Ann Arbor
Minnesota

Please let me know what are your thoughts!! Thanks!

Are you applying for PhD programs? Either way, I would think that if you are applying for funded master’s or PhD programs a 78th percentile Q score for an engineering program would be too low. That’s not my field, though.

Your Q is terribly low for a MechE, although I am not entirely sure that the programs you are applying for care that much about the GRE. However, a score below 80th percentile may raise some concerns on your intellectual capability as an engineer.

Wouldn’t Purdue be a shoo-in for an accelerated MS since you were an undergrad there?
