GRE Score Help!!

So I'm a Junior in Biomedical Engineering and I am looking to get into one of the top ten schools to get a M.S. in BME (MIT, Stanford, UCSD, etc.). I just recently took the general GRE test and am worried about my scores. I recieved a 790Q but did horrible in the verbal getting a 430 eventhough i averaged a 550 with all the practice tests. Does anyone know how this low verbal score will affect my chances of getting into a top school? I will have good letters of rec with a lot of research experience and a few publications by the time I apply. I don't want to retake the test and risk getting a lower math score unless it is necessary. Thanks for the help!

Largely depends on whether your admission is dependent on funding, and if so, whether the department at the school controls their own funding, or whether they have to request funding from a university-wide pool. If it is the latter, then the only standard of comparison is the GRE. For this reason, they are most likely to accept only those that they think have the best chance for funding. I’m sure others will chime in with stories of applicants being admitted with less-than-stellar scores, most likely because they fall outside those two categories, but even if so, they are very much the exception.

Best of luck!
