GRE Scores and Bio PhD Programs Question

So I took my GREs today and found out that I totally bombed the verbal section. (V620, Q 750) Should I retake it again next month? Will my verbal score hurt me a lot if I am planning on applying to top bio phd program (eg stanford, UCLA, Harvard)? And in the (improbable) situation where I end up doing extremely well on the writing section (5 or above), should I not retake the Gres then?
EG what exactly is considered an acceptable score?

A V620 is in the 89th percentile and a Q750 is in the 84th percentile, so, compared to the rest of the GRE population, you did better on the V than the Q. LOL

In my opinion, your scores are fine and I would not take them again.

From MIT's Department of Biology:

SHOULD I APPLY?
All interested students are encouraged to apply. The average undergraduate GPA for admitted students is 3.62, and the average GRE's are:
Verbal (650; 88%),
Quantitative (738; 87%), and
Analytical (735; 90%).

I would not retake that score. GREs are just not important enough relative to other aspects of your application.

I'm not sure about the natural sciences but I know in most engineer/technical programs the verbal section does not have a heavy weight and anything about a 500 is fine.

I forgot to add that the scores from MIT's Department of Biology website are from the old version of the GRE, so just pay attention to the percentiles.

Hi everybody !

I'm applying this autumn to several US and Canadian universities, and here are my stats:

GRE General V-570, Q-660, Analytical - still waiting, but does not expect it to be less than 4.5
GRE Subject test in biochemistry/molecular/cell biology - 90%
GPA - 92% (I don't know how to convert our grading system to American, but over here everything less than 60% is fail (F), and the top is of course 100% which nobody ever achieves)
TOEFL ib - 107
Fluent in French as well (DELF diploma - 92%)
Research experience - very modest: 6 months in a molecular virology lab of University of Belgrade and 3 months of confocal microscopy training (due to the political circumstances in my country after fall of Slobodan Milosevic, I could not get some summer fellowship for abroad)

Finally, here's the list of universities where I will apply:

Harvard - BBS
Stanford
UCLA
University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine
University of British Columbia
University of Toronto
Universite de Montreal

Please bee free to assess my chances of getting admitted to these universities based on your experiences. I'm looking forward to your advices !

Kindest regards from Serbia,
