GRE Subject test

Umm.. a question about the GRE tests in general, i guess..

Do you just take the GRE subject test on the area you plan to specialize in grad school, or do you take as many as you can like the SAT IIs?

Also, is the General test an absolute requirement for all grad schools?

you take it in the area of the field you want to enter -- any given subject test is not all that easy and does not test just one year of a class you took like in high school -- it tests what you learned over all the years in college

no, it is not required for all programs -- you should check -- majority of PhD programs require it, but not all masters programs do

it's way too early for me to be thinking about PhD's, but how many Subjects would you be required to take for an Econ PhD? I am guessing you have to take Math, but what else? Thanks in advance.

If there is not a subject test in your specific discipline (and economics doesn't), you will probably not have to take one at all. You are only expected to take one GRE subject test in the area that you plan to complete your graduate work in.
