GRE Subject Test

Hi everybody!

I'm a student from Austria and currently attending an upper secondary technical and vocational college that specializes in software engineering and business organisation. Our education is often considered to be equivalent with a degree in the field of Computer Science. (We don't get a degree though, but we have the skills. ;) )

What I want to ask is, how would the Admission Officers treat a GRE Subject Test in Computer Science? It's not about getting credit, but I think this is a very good way to show my skills in this area. I know that the GRE is not for prospective Undergraduates, but I thought in my special case it could make sense to take it. What do you think?

Thank you in advance,
Daniel

If you have the proficiency, I would say go for it. I heard of one case of a student who applied to UChicago, and who had taken the physics GRE test. His score was higher than the average GRE of students going into UChicago's physics grad programs. If you think you can do well, go for it.

Personally, I wouldn't do it.

The GRE subject tests are not really all that difficult -- they could be taken pretty easily by someone who had finished the first year of an undergraduate curriculum.

I think your skills will speak for themselves. You don't need to take a $130 test to prove them.

Thank you for your answers!

I hope they will. :-) Money is the only reason that actually keeps me away from just doing it and see what comes out.
