GRE- Timeframe

I'm a junior, with senior standing, planning to apply to grad. school for Fall 2009.
When would be the right time to take the GREs and the subject tests?

Ive been told mid summer for the GRE and then oct/nov. for the subject tests will allow completed applications to be sent in by december.

That timeframe is fine, although you can take the general test as late as early December and the subject test at the latest test date (which may actually be November) and still get your scores in time for applications. But summer is usually a good time to take the general test because you don't have to worry about schoolwork concurrently.

thanks.. another quick question.. how soon before i want to take the test should i apply online? do spaces get filled up quickly? i know the gre is an online test... is there 'i should apply as soon as possible so they dont run out of room' issue involved?

If you have a date in mind, you may as well sign up. There are limited numbers of computers in each testing room, so it's certainly possible for a testing center to fill up for a particular day.

You don't need to sign up four months in advance or anything, but if you know when you want to take the test, there's no harm in signing up early.

I would say take it as soon as you feel you're prepared just in case you have to take it again. The nice thing about the GRE is that you get your score when you finish (except writing)...nonetheless, it's best to avoid the stress of taking it last minute.

Scores can be sent directly after you take the test, so I wouldn't worry about taking it too far in advance.
