Great academics but bad SATs! Will it hurt in applying?

My issue is that I have a 4.02 GPA with tons of honors and APs and 3 languages: spanish, german, arabic, and lots of hours in ECs between employment and peer ministry service along with clubs and varsity softball but the problem is, is that i only have a 1190 on my SAT. im just not a good test taker, and no... an SAT prep course hasnt helped....so, will schools know that im a good student but just not a good test taker, ive gone on interviews bc i can articulate and explain who i am very well but do u think some place like george washington and georgetown will give me the time of day? Please respond! ( i want to start my apps soon!) thanks!!

You have nothing to lose except your time and your application fee. If you don't apply, you'll always wonder, "What if?"

Just make sure that you have solid safety and match schools that you'd love attending.

please reply....anybody?

retake it.....i really think you can bring it up (is that the old test score.....? if it's not, than you should definately retake it)

Did you ace your AP's? If so, you're just a bad standardized test taker. If not, your school has major inflation.

no i got a 3 on my ap gov exam>> yea i have my safties a good fits i just wanted to know if georgetown was too much of a reach.. and yes im retaking my SAT Is on oct 8th and taking math IIC and spanish with listening on nov 5th

you could consider taking the ACT; many people perform better on it.

here's the old saying: "Standardized test scores mean less than you think but more than adcoms will tell you"

Apply. What have you got to lose except time and your application fee? No one here can tell you whether or not you can get in. We can't read the adcoms minds. Do the best application that you can and hope for the best. Have good safeties and match schools, too!

Also try taking the ACT as kcirsch suggested.

thanks everyone!

Take the ACT and check out fairte s t . org for SAT optional schools

2 possibilities, you are a terrible test taker or you got grade inflations

i think even if you are a 4.0+ student, and adcoms tell you "SAT is just a test don't worry", inside they are still saying to themselves "why doesn't this person do well on SATs? i mean at least a 2100 or 1400 should be acheivable if he/she is applying to our school"
