I remember on rainy days, the stacks were full, but on sunny tempting days, lots of folks were out on the quad throwing frisbees. Not that blowing off a little steam and taking a break is wrong, but I feel that persevering and heading to the stacks even on sunny days may have given me an edge on average.

“Pay now, play later,” was always a favorite saying of mine.

“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”
— Winston S. Churchill

Do not forget to “play” though. Enjoying whatever you do and spending time with your friends are extremely important. Make sure you can connect to people with various backgrounds. Do not be hermit studying all the time. It will backfire. However, you do have to work hard aiming at highest grades and doing everything on time, and make sure that you do have sufficient amount of sleep, you just going to be less productive if you do not. UG is 4 years of your life, it is better be balanced 4 years, memories to go back with smile. You will not have that much freedom “later”. Life will get much much busier and harder after UG. Enjoy while it lasts!

The thing that I dislike about premed is that it has completely destroyed my undergrad experience.

^It is up to a student. It absolutely does not have to destroy UG experience and results will be just fine, if getting to Med. School is a goal. Do not have to choose the hardest major, do not have to add more stuff if your plate is full already. Have to learn to say NO to some awesome opportunities if they will require stretching too much. Again, it is 4 years of your life, the best ones too, you will never have that much freedom, it is going to get harder and harder and busier.

If so, then you’re doing it all wrong…
