Great Article on Transfers in Wall Street Journal

I'm not sure about getting such a big bump from working at MacKinsey. It almost sounds like your trying to sell yourself on the idea because you seem a little bit too focused on it.

To above heckling dhl3, you should quit. When your company is referred to as "The Firm" by people working outside of it, you know it's quite powerful. McKinsey consistently places people into the best business schools and serves as a springboard to upper level management positions upon leaving the firm. Those are just facts jack. Dhl3, I am in the same boat as you and I am working hard to achieve a position with McKinsey upon graduation. May we both succeed =)

what is the title of the article?

no you wony get introuble for posting an article.

"because believe it or not, top firms like McKinsey and Goldman Sachs look at the elite-level schools FIRST before turning their eyes to "Ivy-Wannabe" schools like UCLA, Ann Arbor, and Virginia."

dude, you don't know what you're talking about, Michigan is recruited by more of the top five firms than Berkeley is, and as many as MIT

UVA is recruited by as many as Berkeley

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=235587%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=235587</a></p>

<a href="http://www.mckinsey.com/careers/us_schools/mckoncampus/%5B/url%5D">http://www.mckinsey.com/careers/us_schools/mckoncampus/</a></p>

Check out where they recruit. Some of the schools are not "elite" in the sense that most CCer's use. BTW, I don't think any one is heckling dhl3...we're just wondering why it is so important to him to talk it up. Being associated with MCK is like associating yourself with a college football teams victories or losses. There are psychological and sociological currents underlying the need to make sure that all of us know about it.

It's like those people who think just because they go to ____, that _______ necessarily makes them a good person or more deserving. It's that there is just a tad too much focus on 'elite'....which can turn some people off (debatable whether it is in bad taste or not). He used the President analogy which is perhaps a little far fetched. Just one opinion.

I never said McKinsey do not recruit anywhere besides the elite schools.
Sure they recruit at ucla and ann arbor too.
but the actual number they recruit, you'll see the difference.

Wharton - more than 50
UCLA - less than 5

"because believe it or not, top firms like McKinsey and Goldman Sachs look at the elite-level schools FIRST before turning their eyes to "Ivy-Wannabe" schools like UCLA, Ann Arbor, and Virginia."

that's exactly what you said, you said elite firms look at the ivies before Michigan or UVA.

I wasn't talking about UCLA.

it was meant to be mean "elite schools are McKinsey's primary choice of candidates"

and UCLA is at the same level with michigan and virginia.
just because UCLA is not the flagship school in the state doesnt mean it doesnt match the level of michigan and virginia.

To sreis, the article's name is "College Admissions: the Sequel."

yeah but the point is, michigan is an elite school and is a primary choice by 3/5 of the top consulting firms, higher than several of the ivies

and i'm not saying UCLA isn't at the level of michigan and virginia necessarily, but it isn't recruited by consulting firms to the same degree

I just watched Saw III and it was extremely gory.
i almost threw up :P

i want to see that movie, i liked the last two alot, even though i was really expecting to like neither, especially the second one
