Great athlete, good grades, poor test scores

My daughter is a very talented athlete, with top D1 rowing ability and already has the interest of several Ivy League coaches. Her GPA is 3.5 (As and Bs with AP classes included), but her SAT scores are very low, CR + Math 1050. What are her chances of getting recruited, Ivy or otherwise? She'll do a test retake, but has historically always tested low, so may not raise her scores by much.

It is tough, because she would be a recruited athlete (which is much harder to chance). But her GPA and SAT are rather low for ivy/top tier schools. It will probably come down to how much the coaches want her…

^agreed
The test scores can come up a bit, but keeping in touch with those interested Ivy League coaches is your best bet

Match me please,
GPA: 3.72 W (4.6667 scale, 4.6667 being A+ and 4.3333 being A)
ACT:25
Strong extracurriculars considering I will apply to the business schools at the following:
Purdue
Penn state: university park (smeal)
Wisconsin- Madison
UCONN
James Madison
PITT

One other thing to think about, is that the Ivy’s do not give athletic scholarships so you would probably be looking at full cost. It is hard to predict how she will do - it just depends on how much coaches like her. The test scores will limit academic scholarship that she might receive to supplement any athletic scholarship offers. You might have her study this summer and retake the SAT’s in the fall. You might also look at ACT’s as an alternate- many kids do better w/ the ACT’s than the SAT’s. Good luck!

Chance back? My response is up above

Dkushner10 you should post your own thread (it is considered rude to hijack a thread)…

What about Notre Dame women’s crew? Does anyone have info on their recruiting and what their standards are for test scores, GPA.

^I will comment on a couple of things. At first glance, both your daughter’s GPA and test scores look to be too low for Notre Dame, even as a recruited athlete. My daughter is currently a freshman there, and one of her roommates is a recruited athlete. While it may not be the same for all sports there, I do know that she had to score a 28 on the ACT to be admitted as a recruit, which converts to between a 1250 and 1280 on the two part SAT (CR+M). As far as the Ivies go, there is something called the Academic Index used to assess the likelihood that a recruit is admitted. I believe they use a combination of class rank/GPA and test scores to determine the Index for each recruit. From what I understand, this is done to somewhat insure that the pool of recruited athletes doesn’t differ too much from the general student population in terms of academic ability.

No offense, but honestly, the GPA and SAT are pretty low. is she a senior? If she is, then tries really hard on her personal essay. If she is a junior, then tries really hard in her senior year. But overall, it all depends on how good she is at sport and extracurricular activities.
