Anyone interested in a running discussion of GBBO, which starts today? If so, I’m thinking, you can post whenever you watch it, but don’t post any spoilers you find online for not-yet-aired information. I myself often won’t be watching until Sunday or Monday, so I will know not to go on till I’ve seen the current episode. (Though tonight I will be able to watch.)
I adore this show, happy to be done with Matt Lucas whom I’ve never warmed to, and looking forward to get excited to bake a lot of things I won’t actually bake, but will think about a lot.
Last year for Christmas, my S and his GF gave me a lot of specialized tools and a recipe, and we actually did get together to bake the most incredible blueberry tart, so I’m hoping this winter the show will inspire me to actually act on the impulse to bake!
Me. Although I already watched the first episode. No spoilers, but there are some really talented bakers this year. Almost all the showstoppers, including the one by the eliminated contestant, were amazing.
H was as excited as I was to see GBBO again. We watched half this morning, before babysitting, and will watch the rest of the episode tonight. Alison seems like a great addition to the team.
I’m curious about this, too! We watch it on BBC iPlayer with a VPN, but I didn’t think that many people put in that amount of money and effort to watch British TV.
Yup. (And thanks for the correct company. I’ve been blaming Betty Crocker. Wait, on futher read, they are both owned by General Mills. I’ll just blame them all! ).
I’ll also add that there is a companion show, The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice, hosted by Jo Brand, which is a fun post-mortem that I enjoy, but is unavailable on Netflix. And I almost never watch the companion series or podcasts.
My family are Bake Off fans from the very start. I can’t wait to see the new season. I honestly believe this show has been responsible for a renaissance not only in baking but for home cooking in general.
I have to agree that Matt Lucas was never right for the show, though he is a talented performer and I was excited when I heard he was going to host. I loved him in the Little Britain series. I love Noel. I wish Sandi had stayed. I hope Alison Hammond gels with Noel.
My favorite bake off contestants of all time:
Richard. The pencil behind the ear was so genuine.
Liam. He was just so charming and you could see how he really became invested and pushed himself.
Rahul. He is just such an interesting person. I’m fascinated by all he does. There’s real intelligence in everything he makes.
Nadiya, because we all love her! What’s not to love?
Other faves, simply because they are so talented and/or personable. Crystelle, Janusz, Ruby B, Kim-Joy, Yan, and Tamal.
I was really rooting for Syabira last year. She was so creative. She was a deserving winner.
I actually think that the baking is of such good quality these days that Pru and Paul might have good reason to be worried about their own skills. Luckily they are already famous!
@skieurope the real aficionados just call it Bake Off😉 I watch most of the companion shows too, because I have too much free time. Lol.
I recently finished The Great Australian Bake Off, am currently watching The Great South African Bake Off[, and will be watching The Great Canadian Baking Show (again, blame Pillsbury) which starts 10/1. So simply calling it “Bake Off” doesn’t work.
