So which CAP advisors and classes are widely considered to be excellent? I’m trying to pick and my procrastination has not served me well. Thanks for any help you can give!!

bump

I want to know, too!

GE22. Jan Tullis is a great professor and a great advisor!!! It's also a great, challenging class.

how about non-geology...like bio or poli sci or ir?

hows professor Smith, for anthro?

does anyone know anything about these classes or professors? thanks, i could use any advice...

culture and health - dan smith
intro to neuroscience - john stein
intro to cognitive science - sheila blumstein
children's thinking (CG0063) - david sobel
cost versus care: the dilemma for american medicine - stephen smith
introduction to human development and education - jin li
religion and public policy - brett clifton

Thank You!!

intro to neuro is very popular, john stein is a great lecturer and a great guy, however it is a big lecture class

intro to cog sci w/ sheila blumstein is also a great class. blumstein is one of the most famous cog scientists in the world and loves teaching. she served as president of brown for a year to boot. a rock star all around.

i'm skeptical about steve smith's cost vs. care class

i've heard good things about david sobel

really, you should look at the critical review
http://thecriticalreview.org/

do you mind if i ask why you're skeptical about cost vs care? just curious - thanks!

I've heard horror stories about David Sobel. From several people. Stay Away.

Dan Smith is a nice laid back guy but I wouldn't advise taking his CAP course either. He's a bit scattered

I've uniformly heard Jin Li is very approachable and friendly.

Any views on..

Rachel Friedberg for Economics
Mark Cladis for Religious Studies
Jean Feerick for English
P. Terrence Hopmann for IR
George Eliot for Sociology

?

Cladis, Hopmann and Elliot I've heard good things about with Cladis reciving the most praise

STAY AWAY FROM DAVID SOBEL...

Sheila Blumstein is great, and Clifton's class is supposed to be fantastic.

I would also like to second the recommendation of Jan Tullis as a CAP advisor - you really will not find a better advisor anywhere, and I loved her class.

What about Rachel Friedberg for Principles of Economics??

anyone?...also what about animal minds with R. Colwill

Sorry I'm not familiar with either.

no worries, anyone else?

i think i've heard good things about animal minds. one of my first-years (i was an rc last year) took it this past year and enjoyed it.

sorry, i know nothing about friedburg. however, ec11 is not known to be great (serrono is supposed to be a great prof though).
