I got an 8/12 on the essay for the SAT this October, and I'm applying to the UCs. My Oct SAT score is the highest single sitting score I have, so the UCs will see my 8 on the writing section essay. I can't really say if my college essays are great or not, but a HYP alum interviewer/teacher at my school read my essays and said that they're very good. She's usually very picky when it comes to essays. I'm kinda afraid that my college essays and the 8 I received on the SAT will raise a red flag because of a huge discrepancy in quality. Should I be worrying about this or is it no big deal?

don’t worry about it.

especially if you have decent english class schedule/grades. honestly the sat essay barely counts for anything and many schools (can’t say I know any specifics on the UCs) do not even consider the essay or even sometimes the whole writing section of the SAT

considering that you only had 25 minutes to write an essay…it doesn’t count for much. Every essay is better if one has time to revise it…and in no college will they require you to write an essay in 25 minutes and turn it in.

An 8 is not bad. I wouldn’t worry about it at all, if the rest of your score was good then you’re fine.
