Great composite.. not so good writing

i got a 34 on the past april act, which is MUCH higher than what i got before (two 30s and a 31.. so a 34 is a nice step up)... on those other 3 ACTs i got 8's on the writings.. on this one (the 34), i got a 7 on the writing... and the new english/writing combined is a 31.... will this 7 hurt me?

i want to go to northwestern university, and a 34 is definitely what i need to get in there, but will they look down on the 7 writing, or does it really matter that much?

i got a 34, 8 writing. same boat here. try and take it again...you have at least 1 or 2 more chances...i doubt it will be a huge deal but the difference b/w a 6 (2 scores of 3) and an 8 (2 scores of 4) is pretty significant...but no i wouldnt think a 7 would keep you out of NU

i'm only afraid that if i take it again i may get an 8 or a 9 (maybe higher..) on the writing, but may only get a 32 or 33 on the composite after getting this 34

well remember for ACT you only submit individual scores...not all of them like SAT. so it can't hurt. i will take it again in prob october

I got a 35 composite for english and a 9 in writing -.-
Which is really odd since the other time I took the ACT I got a 31 composite and 10 in writing...
Oh well, I suppose a 10 to a 9 isn't that big of a jump.

Haha we're on the same boat, I got a 35 in writing and a 7 for my essay as well. I'm wayyyy too lazy to retake it though... but I probably should.

I've already gone through the admissions process with the exact same thing - 34 composite, 7 writing. I didn't retake, and I got into schools like Emory and Rice and William & Mary. So it is possible to get into top tier schools with this little blip on your application. Unless you want to major in journalism or something, it probably won't be a deciding factor.

I got a 36 C and a 7 writing... ugh.

Does anyone know if admissions actually read the essay?
