Hey guys, I'm visiting UCB this Wednesday, and I'm wondering what some of your favorite food places in the area are and what type of food they serve?

I like many different types of food, but I can't stand seafood tbh.

Anyway, if anybody has any suggestions, that would be great!

Cheeseboard on Shattuck Ave. Delicious thin crust pizza. They select one pizza for the day and serve just that one pie all day. It’s always vegetarian and always delicious :)

DD always brings visitors to Cheeseboard, Naan and Curry (Indian/Pakistani food) on Telegraph, Love at First Bite (cupcakes) on Walnut, and Ici (ice cream) on College.

Cheeseboard sounds excellent! Thanks inconnu and Schmoomcgoo! Love at First Bite and Ici also sound delicious. I’ll be sure to check out some of these, if not all.

inconnu: agreed on naan and curry sucking. most inauthentic **** ive tasted in my life.

i happen to like the thai noodle place on telegraph-cant seem to remember its name though and dont know how popular it is compared to cheeseboard.

If parents will be joining/paying…then…I agree with rider…Ajanta Restaurant-best Indian Restaurant in the Bay Area, IMHO…Chez Panisse on Shattuck is world famous-make reservations [Chez Panisse Restaurant](http://www.chezpanisse.com)

Leftist, I was born and raised in South India and I think Naan and Curry is horrible But to each his own.

OP, if you want something quick, try Smart Alec’s on Telegraph Ave. Their corn bread is beyond worldly limitations, and their corn chowder is the best I’ve had. Their burgers/sandwiches are pretty good too.

PS. If anyone knows better corn chowder than what’s served at Smart Alec’s, please let me know. I’m a huge fan of corn chowder.

The food around Cal is pretty mediocre and you’re pretty screwed if you’re not into Asian or Indian food. With that said, I’d recommend Gypsy’s Italian restaurant.

Thanks for all of the amazing suggestions guys! The Italian places sound really good right now.

@ Firapina: I may just have to go there if it really is as good as you say. I’m trying to get the full day experience up in Berkeley, so I want the food selection preplanned and the best of the best. Trattoria La Siciliana, and as Catalysis mentioned above, Milanese Cafe both sound great.

I’d go to Sufficient Grounds on Durant just west of Telegraph for the sandwiches. I always get the rosemary garlic chicken on either honey wheat or foccacia with a side of potato salad for $7.50. The free donuts by the cash register are also pretty cool. :]
