Great grades throughout high school...Except for Senior year BC Calculus

Hey guys,

I am in the top 1 percent of my class (probably valedictorian/sal) and have taken consistently challenging AP courses. I took 4 Junior year and 6 Senior year, and did well in all of them (A's or A pluses)...

Except for BC Calculus this year. My quarterly grades are mid B's and I feel as if I may get a low B or even a high C on my midterm.

Supposing I do relatively well on my other midterms (e.g. B + or higher), would my BC Calculus midyear grade ruin my chances at Princeton and other highly selective schools? Our teacher is exceptionally challenging and the top 25 students in the class are the only ones who take the class-The average grade is about an 80.

I'm an Asian applicant with really good ECs btw (national level prizes for classical Oriental singing, state level debate competition best delegate awards (RUMUN, Philmun, etc), etc.

Can someone please give me an accurate picture of what I should expect going forth??

Thank you so much!

I was similar to you. I’m currently rank 1 but my GPA and rank are at risk of tipping because of AP Calc BC (and also AP Bio). I actually had a C this past nine weeks because Sequences and Series unit was a nightmare! I’m applying to Penn btw. And although I thought i was going to get a very low B on the midterm, I scraped with a super low A. I was lucky enough that the teacher curved it a bit.

I think colleges should see that AP Calc BC is a challenging course and provided you do well in your other courses, I don’t think your mid year report shouldn’t be a huge weight.

But I’m just a fellow high school student. I’m also saying that because I hope that’s true. XD
