<p>My son's great-grandfather was a former professor, department head, and fairly well-known doctor at my son's 1st pick college, which only has about a 10% acceptance rate. How much would this help with gaining admittance, if at all, and how would one put this information in an application? Application requires a personal statement essay.</p>
<p>It's only a hook if say someone endowed a chair in his name or he left a financial legacy to the school. These thing matter less the harder the school is to get into.</p>
<p>Can't believe that it would be of any significant value. Might as well find a way to mention it though, especially if there is a "Why ____" essay where it would be easy to fit it in.</p>
<p>Son would like to attend University of Cincinnati's School of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning. Great-grandfather was the Head of the Department of Preventive Medicine, and made great strides in combating yellow fever.</p>
<p>Certainly mention it where they ask about family who attended....Even though the admit rate might be low for his program I think you have a better shot at it meaning something there than if it were the usual suspect 10% admit schools.</p>
