Me and my mom are lookin for hotel deals online and of course, i, the computer-literate one, am the one searching. well, i found the st. francis arms + car ( from SJC airport )on cheaptickets.com for $161 for 3 days, 2 nights. sept. 19 - 21
strange that that deal was $235 on orbitz... maybe cheap tickets only calculates one day for the car (????)
ne wayz, the hotel was an apt. building so all of em have full kitchens and living rooms plus a choice of one or two bedrooms and continental breakfast. u can look @ the reviews urself on yahoo travel and tripadvisor, but just thought i'd share this. it SEEMS like a good deal. i don't know, tho. oh yeah, its not THAT close 2 Stanford, but close enough w/ the rental car : 17 miles. 60 somethin dollars a night alone. and its a 3-star hotel--- on most sites :), at least.

Partly why the St. Francis Arms seems like a great deal is that it is not close to Stanford. It is extended stay lodging like Homewood Suites, Extended Stay America, etc. which is why it offers a kitchenette with dishes, cookware and eating utensils. It is designed for business travelers who stay for long period of time, i.e. 1 week, 1 month or longer and plan to cook their own meals. You normally don't get housekeeping services on a daily basis. They only provide new bath towels and bed sheets twice a week. It is clean, comfortable lodging that is better than a motel but not as good as a full-service hotel.

There are plenty of grocery stores and eateries nearby and it is 10-12 miles from Stanford. It is located on the El Camino Real, which is the main business road in Silicon Valley. In fact, you can take El Camino Real directly to the Stanford campus. Visitor parking on the Stanford campus is $12 per day.

thanx for the info. i think 10-12 miles is close enough... 15-20 minutes is good to me... i'd rather have space in a hotel than proximity --- i know we won't be traveling back and forth to stanford... only maybe to stores (target, bb&b,...)

There is a Target and Wal-Mart right off the El Camino Real in Mountain View, half way between your lodging and Stanford. There is also a closer Target in Sunnyvale.
