Great Midwest Masters in Music for Vocal Performance/ Opera.

Hi everyone, I seeking view points on what are great Grad programs for vocal performance in the Midwest. I’m in college already double studying in Arts administration and Vocal performance. I say double study because I not able to double major in my university. However, I am able to major in arts administration and take the classes as a vocal performance major. I choose this route because Grad schools will see my training as in vocal performance on my transcript. From what I’ve known, as long as my UG degree is in music I can go for vocal performance for my masters; as long as I have the training and a good audition.

I’m asking for a list schools in the Midwest because I’m in Chicago however, I looking for more options to compare resources, opportunities for performance, and what is Most Feasible.

Also, if you have any advice or recommendations for voice instructors within the institution that would be nice as well.

The most obvious schools are: Michigan, Indiana and of course University of Illinois CU. All have well-known grad programs in VP. Madison could be another consideration. It is less well-known but I hear it has a pretty good program. CCM is not too far from the Chicago area as well and has a very good reputation. And I’ve heard the Kansas City Conservatory is respectable too.

The best place to go for recommendations and insight would be your current or past teacher(s). Also your network of VP friends are another great source. If you have done summer programs teachers or friends from those programs can give a lot of insight. Generally they have experience at other schools and can provide insight on the environment and teachers. It is useful to communicate with people who know your voice as they would give the best advice.
