There's alot of information out there on the Internet, but recently I stumbled across what I think is probably one of the best "free" guide to college admissions. It was prepared by the Counseling staff at Torrey Pines High School in San Diego, California. Inside, there's a wealth of information and links to help you decide which type of college is best for you, evaluate your admissions strengths and weaknesses, draw up a list of possibilities, and boost your admissions chances. Although there's a particular focus on colleges and universities in California, there's enough here to make it useful for anyone starting the college search. And, it's all free. Here's the link:

By the way, I've been listing other useful college resources like this on my personal website. It's against the CC terms of service to link directly there, but if you're curious, click on my name to the left and then on "Carolyn's Homepage."

Yes, thanks Carolyn! Though we have just finished our third/ final college search for last child and all that's left is orientation and move-in day...I have five siblings with 16 nieces and nephews yet to college search, so I am happily forwarding your site to all of them. Good luck with your own daughter's upcoming search process.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate all of the positive feedback. A book is in my plans, by the way. :) WJB, check your personal mail for a message from me.
