Great Restaurant in Boston

I know this will sound trivial compared to most other threads, but I am visiting Northeastern next week, and I wondered if anyone knew of any really good restaurants in Boston, preferably which have great seafood? I want to take my parents out to dinner as a way of thanking them for all their support in this college process, and I want to make sure it is a good restaurant. Now, I know Boston decently since I have been there twice before, but I would like a Northeasterner's opinion on this subject ;).

north end is the best food. mostly italian nd continental i believe.

use this … [Restaurants Boston | Yelp](http://www.yelp.com/search?z=15&bbox=-71.095662117%2C42.3450014368%2C-71.0827875137%2C42.3545163651&find_desc=&cflt=restaurants)

and pick anything!

If you are looking for a good seafood restaurant near Northeastern, we like Legal Seafood. I believe there is one in the Prudential Center which is only a few blocks from campus.

Alright so I did some research, and there is a really little seafood joint in the North End called The Daily Catch. It’s supposed to be really good and a lot of locals like it. Has anyone ever been there?

I haven’t, but have you looked at yelp? Usually I think there are enough reviews per restaurant that you can get a good idea. (If you’re already going by yelp, I usually pretty much trust them). There will be some outliers, but enough reviews that you can go by most people.

Yeah. Yelp gave it 4 stars. So I think it ought to be pretty decent. But sometimes I think they are a little overly critical on that sight, although my palate may just be lacking ;).

Yeah, I think they are overly critical, but you know, some people have bad experiences. I think usually I can at least get an idea.

Legal Seafood is the closest place to campus (in Pru), but it’s kind of overpriced.

^^^legal seafood is not a restuarant in boston lowerendmom or neuchimie. Its an east coast chain. So if you were looking for real boston food…dont go to a chain. It is a pretty good chain tho

I know it’s a chain… But that doesn’t change the fact that there is a Legal Seafoods restaurant near northeastern. They didn’t say “no chains”, they just said a good restaurant.

do you consider mcdonalds a restaurant? lol obviously not the same level, but i think he was looking for a unique restaurant.

Shouldn’t lump “Legal Sea Foods” into the chain restaurant category. Yes they have more than one location but definitely not the kind of chain along the lines of a Red Lobster, Chili’s, etc. Think “Capital Grille”. Legal is clearly a fine dining experience- one of my favorite places to eat when in town. BTW- check out Jasper White’s “Summer Shack”- another fine seafood restaurant across from the Prud. http://www.summershackrestaurant.com/

From Wikipedia:

Legal Sea Foods is a Boston-based seafood restaurant chain, with locations primarily in New England and the Northeast. There are also a few locations around Washington, DC, three in South Florida, and one in Atlanta, GA.

It was founded in 1904 by Harry Berkowitz, who opened a “cash market” which became his son George’s “legal sea foods” fish market in the Inman Square area of Cambridge, Massachusetts. The menus vary slightly by location and season, but they all include a variety of specialty seafood and non-seafood entrees, appetizers, salads, and desserts. Extensive wine lists and full-service bars are also available at all locations to entice a younger, urban clientele in addition to family gatherings.

By promoting day boat fishing operations, the company markets itself as having the freshest fish. The company also made industry advances on fish handling and has worked with the federal agencies on developing Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP).[1]

Legal Sea Foods got its name from the vouchers Harry used to give people at the fish market. He would hand patrons pieces of paper with the inscription “Legal Tender” written on the front. Every time a person came back to the market, or into the restaurant, they were allowed to use this “Legal Tender”.[citation needed]

Bon App

Legal SeaFood is a local restaurant in Boston - glad it has done well enough to become a chain, but in Boston and Cambridge it’s still local. Traditional upscale seafood are near the Wharfs (Jimmy’s and Anthony’s) but I like Legal as much as anyplace.

My Mom lived in the North End for years and we would often walk past The Daily Catch to get to Legals (by the aquarium).

I still like “The No-Name Restaurant” on Commercial Wharf best. A very old, not fancy seafood fresh off the boat place that has been run by the same family for something like 70 years.

Have fun in Boston…

Daily Catch is a great choice. Just know it is small (several tables) – but fun location in North End

Another fun place is Jaspar White’s Summer Shack which is relatively closed to Northeastern. Great food. Casual atmosphere.
Very nice of you to thank your parents!
