My boyfriend lives in Washington and I will be attending OSU next year (I live in Ohio already)… He is a grade younger than me so has yet to apply to college but will be doing so in the fall. He got a 2250 on his SAT but his gpa is only a 2.5 cumulative. Does he stand a chance of being accepted? Does it help that he is a minority? Thanks…

p.s. I know our relationship is complicated that isn’t the issue here though.

What is his verbal/math SAT score, OSU doesn't use the writing section as a factor in admission.

Also, what's his class rank, rather than GPA?

Look at some of these other posts for a detailed class profile.

The "average" OSU student is ranked in the top 25% of their high school class (actually, about 80% of our students are) and has an ACT of 26-30, or SAT of 1170-1350.

If he is ranked under the 60th percentile of his high school class, it's often very difficult to be admitted, no matter the test score.

Hmm. I think he you may have a chance, depending on rank.

My friend had a 3.5, ranked in 11%, and got a 33 on his ACT, and he got into honors and received the highest type of scholarship that is supposed to only go to people in the top 3% of their class.

My ex-boyfriend had a 3.3, ranked in 17%, and a 32 on his ACT, and he got into honors with a very high scholarship, despite the fact that honors is supposd to be for only top 10%, and the scholarship was supposed to be for top 5%.

Both will be attending OSU next year.

So, what I'm saying, is that often at OSU, some very good test scores can trump a bad GPA.

Scholarships are different from admission though...

Unfortunately (read my post) that is the case
