Hi! I have a question on the SAT factor in admissions. say someone has a decent number of AP classes during High School, around 5, and a decent GPA of around 3.8. will having VERY high SAT I and SAT II scores, like 2300 and 800s, make up for a less stellar GPA and classes? especially concerning UCLA and UCB. thanks, and i hope anyone has time to reply! :)

Yes.. They do..
and 3.8 Unweighted and 5 APs is great..

2300 on SAT is also above 95 percentile
800s on SAT IIs aren't that common either..

Do you have good AP Exam scores?? If you do, that will help even more..

Don't forget that UCs base their decisions much on Extracurricular activities.. You can relax on your academics next year and focus on your ECs.. That will help you get in..

By the way, next time post in "What are my Chances?"
"SAT and ACT Tests & Test Preparation" is for discussing the tests themselves and your chances with the scores you get on them..

2300 on the SAT is going to be well into the 99th percentile, by the way. A 220 may very well be 99th percentile.

3.8 unweighted...you're a shoe in
3.8 weighted...very likely, but there is a chance you'll get rejected.

well to tell you..a low GPA can kinduh be "covered" up with strong college entrance exam scores. ur gpa is probably in range with many top colleges and ur SAT score should probably fill the small weaknesses you might show.

The answer is no. SAT scores and AP scores do not make up for GPA. I have high scores (SAT > 1500, PSAT > 220, SAT II all > 780, AP scores 4,5,5,5,5), but a GPA of 3.8. This GPA is also very important because of the ranking factor. Basically, if you score inside the top 1% of all test takers but rank outside the top 10% (!) of your high school class, your chances are very slim at top schools.
