Hey I'm new here on this board so I figured I would start with a really important question of mine.
I will be heading into my junior year of high school this fall and I already know that I will be majoring in psychology as an undergrad in college.
I would REALLY appreciate if anyone here on this forum could help me out with some schools that have great psych programs!
List any and all schools, I don't care how hard they are supposed to be to get into.
Thank you very much :)
P.S I'm from the Northeast if that helps but you can give me schools pretty much anywhere. Any other kind of information about their undergrad programs that you know of specifically would be really appreciated too!

It completely depends on what you want to do for grad school. If you’re going for a PhD, research opportunities and recommendations are extremely important for your applications.

There’s also some specific courses and programs that can be very good for specific careers. My college (Earlham) offers a course where you get to do a case study on a 6-10 year old child for several weeks. From what I understand, this type of experience is very unusual for undergrads, and greatly helps applications for people interested in pursuing a field in child psychology. There are undoubtedly other programs out there as well, so do some searching :)

[Best Undergraduate Psychology Programs in the U.S.](Best Undergraduate Psychology Programs in the U.S.)

There are lots of other similar lists if you google ‘best undergrad psych’ each with their own way of ranking programs.

I would suggest that another way of going at this might be to establish your criteria for choosing a school and then trying one of the search engines to see what colleges come up. Psych is generally one of the most popular majors at most schools and, at good schools, will be of reasonable quality. And as ECadm said, much depends on what you are trying to do with the degree.

The nice thing is that psychology is a very popular major that you’ll find on almost any campus. Is there a subfield of psychology that particularly interests you - child psych, abnormal, social psychology, workplace psych etc?

I’m very interested in abnormal psychology, as well as psych of personality, being a criminal profiler of sorts would greatly interest me! Forensic psychology, sports psychology, those fields interest me too. I’m also very interested in the topics of motivation and emotion and the biological bases of behavior.

Of course, I do not want my college career to be limited with the classes I take, I want to be able to take a plethora of classes that cover a wide range of topics because who knows? Maybe my interest could get piqued in something I wasn’t interested in before.

Very happy to say I got a 5 on my AP :)

Psych is extremely popular at nearly every college. Since it is popular, the college will offer plenty of courses in that field.

Top psych programs exist at the usual suspects (Ivies, top publics, top LACs, etc.).
