Great Schools that like CC students

I like this new format... :D

So besides state schools  , what top schools have stated that they specifically like community college transfer applicants. I know, for instance, that Harvard doesn't necessarily "like" them since CC students made up a/b 2 of the 75 accepted people. But I've heard that Williams College has stated on their website that they like CC students.

Any good schools yall know of that do, please let me (and other CC students) know and provide a link if you can.

σας ευχαριστούμε
(thank you)

Sorry don't have a link, but I know a few Virginia schools like William and Mary have an agreement that says they will guarantee admission if you meet certain requirements they have set out.

thanks! i'll check into it.

No prob (10 char)

OSU i think has auto admit tooo

All of The University of california schools perfer california CC's. You are more likely to get in from a california CC than any other out of state college or even any cal-state colleges

yeah but I was really looking for top schools that aren't state schools...I'm in Texas...we've got UT.

Therein lies my problem. That's all Texas has to offer...I wish I lived in UC, but I don't, so admission to one of the UCs that compares to UTA (UCB,UCLA) is pretty unlikely.

Any other suggestions would be good too...thanks for those so far.

i don't think OSU counts as a 'great' school.. hehe.

lol that was what i was thinkin...oh well can't hurt to suggest.

Where on Williams website does it say it like community college students? all I see is how they take like 8 transfer students a year. ouch.

UVA guarantees admission to their school after completing 2 years at a Virginia CC. Of course, there are some requirements such as GPA and certain required classes, but is a great opportunity for CC students.

Here is more info about the auto admission to both William and Mary and UVA.

I lived in VA for about a year... lived close to William and Mary. I hate VA, and I don't really like Willamsburg, but William and Mary is such a beautiful campus. I used to walk around there all the time, it's especially nice in the snow. I know they also have a great reputation in the area for liberal arts and business... if you're into tech, however, Christopher Newport was the school of choice there... most people were thumbs down to Old Dominion... heh... who'd ever think that knowledge would come in handy?

Yeah Williams took about 10% of its applicants...so 10 or so may sound bad, but it's not like several hundred people applied. I had heard that Williams likes CC students from WindCloudUltra. Maybe she'll pop into this thread.

I am interested in both William & Mary and UVA. I'm a Texas CC student, but I've held a 4.0 w/ honors and the most difficult courses available...I also have good ECs and a 2220 SAT (will be retaking ACT). I don't guess there's any guarantee for CC students if they're not in VA? I know W&M has around a 52% transfer acceptance rate (highest I've seen for such a great school) and UVA also has a nice one, but I'm wondering if me being OOS will be a buffer against my chances. I was wondering if W&M or UVA could be a safety/low match for me. I've been having a difficult time finding safety/low match schools that I actually like, but these two would fit the bill.

Of course, I realize that if the OOS thing does matter for transfers, neither could be classified a safety/low match, but if it doesn't matter, I'm thinking they might work.

I am also interested in new school suggestions for the original question if anyone else knows of any...

brand, what year are you applying for, and do you plan on applying directly to the business schools?

Actually, I decided not to apply to the business schools b/c I think that'd kill my chances of those schools being safeties/low match. McIntire is never that for anyone :) and I've heard W&M has a competitive bschool as well. I'd be majoring in Econ instead, since admission to the College of Arts is usually easier I'm guessing. I'll be applying for junior standing for Fall 2007.

W&M's b-school is probably not as competitive as McIntire, but as a transfer probably still competitive nonetheless. Also, is you still wanted to major in business you could end up transferring from CAS and just graduate in 3 years as opposed to 2. Overall, yes I'd say admission to CAS is probably easier. However, if you wanted to major in Econ instead go right ahead, as I know W&M has an excellent program in it, having taken a few courses myself.

I'm sure you can apply to both the B-School and their Econ department as well, if the B-School doesn't accept you, Econ may.

really...I didn't think it worked like that...I haven't researched UVA or W&M much yet, but all of the other schools I've researched make it so you can only apply to one school.

I've heard that whether you are instate or out of state, it is relatively easy to be accepted to UVA as a sophomore or junior as long as you have maintained a strong GPA and course schedule. Of course, the auto admit only pertains to VA residents. UVA and W&M should definitely not be out of the question, however.

You said you have a 2200 SAT and 4.0 GPA? As a transfer, you have a great shot at UVA and W&M regardless of being OOS.
