Great Undergraduate Chem schools

Hey there - i want to pursue chemistry as my career path (undergrad > graduate school > post doc > professer at a great university). I sorta slacked during high school and have a not so great GPA (3.5) with an SAT score of 1480. I have done research and am pretty sure that i want to spend most of my life researching (hopefully saving some lives that way). Where are some good schools that have great undergrad chem programs that will allow me to get into a great grad school (like Duke or ivies), but are relatively easy to get into?

im applyin to virginia tech and indiana U -bloomington - are these good chem schools? where else would you suggest - especially in the south or midwest.

thanks!

Wisconsin is much better than the two you have.

Look at: Trinity U (Texas), U of Wisconsin, U of Michigan, Ohio State, Purdue, U of Rochester, Furman (SC), DePauw, Case Western Reserve, Bucknell, U of Colorado, U of Delaware, U of Pittsburgh, Texas A&M, St. Olaf, Hope College (Mich), U of Denver.

Mount Holyoke!

Look at Michigan

Unless they've recently slipped and nobody bothered to tell me, the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana (UIUC) have long been known to have one of the finest chemistry programs in the country. Nice campus; not too hard to get into. UIUC has traditionally been underrated for many areas (although they are always highly regarded for their strong engineering, computer science, and accounting programs).

A second vote for UIUC - the finest student my DH has taught in 12 years of high school chemistry (36 on the ACT, etc, etc) just finished her PhD at UIUC..

thanks guys! i'll definitly look into UIUC - looks like a great option. A lot of those other schools probably won't work either cause of their tiny size, religious affiliation (im jewish and my parents wont pay for me to go to school @ a christian college), or coldness (freakin wisconsin would turn me into an icicle!). any more suggestions would be great!

Wisconsin is not much colder than UI. Right now it is in the 40-50's and will be until December. The UW is a lot more interesting school than UIUC in a MUCH better town. UI is 95% Illinois and foreign grad students.

I would suggest state schools such as Wisconsin and UIUC.
