In my opinion, this year has been a great, if not the best, year for Michigan Athletics (Best so far in 21th century I think).

1) Michigan Soccer reached the Semifinals in the College Cup (We lost only to Akron - the national champions)
2) Michigan Football made it to a Bowl Game! (Finally...Okay, this may not be a great achievement but it was good progress. Plus Denard got Big Ten Athlete of the Year AND we got Brady Hoke so that's still great news)
3) Michigan Basketball made it into the Dance AND GOT FURTHER THAN MSU! Not to mention we SWEEPED them, take that MSU!
4) Michigan Hockey just shutout North Dakota in the Frozen Four to make it to the Finals! (Personally, I believe we are a stronger team than Minn)
5) Men's Swimming got 9th out of 41 teams in the NCAA Championship
6) Men's and Women's Tennis is ranked 23rd and 10th in the nation, respectively
7) Senior men's golfer Lion Kim will play in the 2011 Masters. (Amazing achievement for a senior, wish him luck)
8) Softball is ranked 4th!!!!!!
9) Field Hockey was ranked 8th (although they lost in the NCAA tourney :( )

Go Blue!!!!!!!!
Cheer the Michigan Wolverine Hockey Team as they face Minnesota (the fake U of M) on Saturday April 9th @ 7 pm.

Although I agree that Michigan has had many positives this year, in Basketball and Hockey in particular, until we are consitantly good in Football, we will not be “Michigan”! But I think we are only a couple of seasons away from returning to form.

A win vs Minnesota on Saturday would be awesome.

Yeah it sucks that we are loosing some soccer players, especially Meram…but I’m hopeful that this year’s run allowed the returning ones to improve greatly and that they will lead the team.

Alexandre,
Yeah it’s going to take a while for football to build but I think a college shouldn’t be judge on just one sport. Take Alabama, they are only good in football and they pretty much are bad elsewhere. UMich is different, we are recognized in many sports, not just football.

cdz, I do not think it is going to take that long for Hoke to rebuild the Michigan program. Michigan is five seasons removed from am 11-2 season and only four seasons removed from an utback Bowl win over Florida. He has the attitude, the coaching staff and the understanding of Big 10 football to get the program back to its winning ways in 2-3 seasons.

Hehe! Give it up MLD. RR’s offense, although very potent, is not designed for the Big 10. His offenses do not control the boards and forces the defense to stay on the field too long. You have to have a rush-based offense to survive in the Big 10.

I thought everyone knew that Rich Rod didn’t let Greg Robinson run the defense he wanted? Robinson would have been fine without RR. Hoke is here to save the day.

I agree. Why would any DC want to lead a defense that has to be on the field 35-40 minutes per game and be forced to use a 3-3-5 scheme in a conference that believes in rush-based offenses.

Who cares about LAX? It’s about as important as Softball or Field Hockey. Michigan dominates those two sports two, but nobody cares.

Football, Basketball and Hockey are the only sports that matter. I love the fact that Michigan is great in Field Hockey, Gymnastics, Softball, Swimming and Wrestling and that we occasionally do well in Baseball and Soccer, but none of those sports really matter.

cdz- From a Minnesota resident, Minnesota-Duluth would never be called U of M, they would be referred to as UMD or Duluth. The University of Minnesota-Twin Cities is simply referred to as “The U” here in MN. I don’t think many people would say U of M. Haha anyways GO BLUE!
