I was just wondering what is the most number of schools they have heard someone applied to? I consider 15 a lot. Anyone heard of anything crazy?

some kid posted a message yesterday saying she was applying to 25

but with acceptance rates so low, it’s not in my opinion so crazy

but I would say 15 is a good number

if you only apply to, let’s say, 6 reach schools, you could conceivably get into zero of them.

^If I have a 1.0 GPA and a 1000 SAT and I apply to 100 reach schools I’d probably get into none of them. Acceptance rates don’t tell you much about who gets in it just tells you y/x where y is the admitted class and x is the number that applies.
15 is a lot for most people. Most of my friends applied to 5-10 and got into to most of them because applied to realistic schools.

I would say that exceeding 12-15 schools would probably be excessive considering that a “good” number of schools to apply to would be around 6-10.

Screw this. I want 15 schools. My school only allows 10 max -_-

I heard from Commonapp that the average number of universities people where applying to was 4! I applied for 7, and found that it was too much. It shouldn’t be more than 6!

I’m applying to 10… But I know people who are applying to 14 or more.

A kid from my school applied to 35 - every one that had a specific program. I thought that was just silly. Personally, I applied to 9 (4 reaches, 3 matches, 2 safeties) the first time around, and then 5 (all reaches) for transfer.

I’m applying to the most of anyone in my senior class and thats just 7. Its not so bad considering 1 of them is a state school with EASY application requirements and 5 of the others take the common app. Any more than 10 would be too much for me, but who am I to judge?

I feel as if the amount applied to depends on the number of reaches…

I suppose as much as you’re willing to pay for, I’m spending around $600 after fee-waivers.

My brother applied to 31 med schools

I’m applying to 12, with 6 reaches, 4 matches, and 2 safeties. I haven’t even started most of the essays yet! Is that a lot or few

The most I’ve seen is 10. Hey, if you have the money to apply for so many schools then go for it. The more you apply to, the more chances you have.

In a similar thread about a year ago, I think someone mentioned 60-something applications from a kid at their HS.

But I don’t think anyone can definitively say how many college applications is too many. There are so many factors (e.g. scholarship competitions, grants vs. loans, location, highly selective admissions) that people have to deal with. But I can say that someone who is applying to around 15 or more schools should take a step back and ask themselves if they would seriously consider attending each school they applied to.

I don’t know how many schools I’ll apply to though. I think 6-10 is plenty for me.

How about the most number of schools applied and accepted to. A girl at my school applied to 13 and got into all of them (now attending an Ivy).

I don’t know if I wanna pop up a grand or two to apply to that many schools.

My family doesn’t qualify for fee waivers, and can probably afford it, but $1000 is still…

My school says to only apply to 5 schools but I am just going to apply to colleges just to apply :P
