Greek Dominance?

I've heard that Greek life dominates the social scene and I am also aware that a high percentage of students do join a frat/sorority and I have nooo problem with drinking, but how much influence do frat parties and Greek life in general have over the general social scene?

there are 11 sororities and 17 fraternities. the amount of students involved in greek life ranges from 20-25% depending on the year. currently 23%

i know that although the frats host a large amount of the parties on campus, there is much, much more to get involved with, and it is definitely possible to avoid the greek community completely (except for the fact that a lot of times houses paint the underground tunnels) and still have a bubbling social life. that being said, you might as well use the free booze.

it has some influence on the social scene, but not an overwhelming amount. older students who get sick of frat parties wander off into the city.

Honestly, as a freshman I felt like it was all about the Greek Life and the frat parties.. It seems a lot more prominent than 23%. I have no problem with drinking, but the frat quad sketched me out a bit. Some of my friends became involved in greek life and snubbed hanging out with non greek individuals. Every weekend about ninety five percent of my hall headed off to the frat quad. But that could have just been the fact that I lived on a very greek focused hall...

I would have to agree that it depends on which hall you live in. My hall was great, only about less than half went out, and the rest just stayed in, but we still had a good time talking, watching movies, and just hanging out. :]

Helloooo! How can people just drink alcohol even under 21? It's a criminal offense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111oneone

^ is that a serious remark?

Yes... it's the truth.

well college is gonna be a uprising experience for you then.
