Greek @ Iowa

I may be going to Iowa in the fall, so I wanted to know what people think of the Greek scene at Iowa. I have heard that compared to other big schools, its Greek scene is really pathetic. If I ended up going to a school with a stronger Greek scene, I might be inclined to join, but I don't think I would join at Iowa if it is really lame. For instance, Greek at Iowa gets a rating of "C" on **************, which is far below average for the big schools. The other schools I am looking at - Nebraska and Missouri - have grades of B and A- respectfully. If I went to Nebraska, I would probably do Greek, definitely so at Missouri, but probably not at Iowa if it is as unexciting as people say it is.

I also may attend Iowa next year. Compared to other public schools I applied to I do think Iowa greek scene may be much smaller. Though on princeton review their greek scene was rated at 10. In all, the University of Iowa campus is lively, as is Iowa City, so I’m sure if you decide not to be apart of the greek life there would be much going on. If your concern about parties I’m sure there are many parties on and off campus, also at Iowa City bars you only have to be 19 to enter so that may also better the social scene you want. Though if your not looking for partying/ nightlife there is so much more other things to do on/ off campus.

The greek scene being small doesn’t automatically make it “pathetic” or lame. I’m a current student and decided not to rush, but know plenty of people who have. There really isn’t any division on campus, where the greek students and non greek don’t intermingle. Also, if I’m not mistaken the frats and sororities are dry, so there are never any parties happening there. They do, however, participate in a lot of community service and school event stuff.
