i was wondering if somebody could go in depth about the sorority/fraternity life at w&m like what's each sorority/fraternity known for? i just want to get an informed idea of what it will be like

hmm... i don't really mess with the frats/sororitiess, so i don't know a whole lot about them. but if you're into the greek scene a lot of kids on campus are involved in greek life (30% of students is the number, i'm pretty sure).

but here's a link to the average GPAs for every greek organization on campus: http://www.wm.edu/so/greeks/docs/GPAFall06.pdf

it uses data from fall of 06, but the data is probably almost exactly the same for the groups today.

as you can tell from the data, some of the frats probably study a bit more than the others, such as Alpha Tau Omega... never heard of them but apparently they don't party as much as the other frats, only ten members on campus though.

can't really help you out with greek stereotypes because i don't involve myself in the greek scene. i just know that almost none of the frats (idk about the sororities) are really all that exclusive, pretty easy to pledge for most of them, just hang around their parties at the beginning of the school year.

edit: also, here's a link to some potentially helpful articles for you: The Flat Hat: Search results: greek life

those are all from The Flat Hat, W&M's official newspaper.

Average female student GPA = 3.28
Average sorority student GPA = 3.26

Average male student GPA = 3.0983
Average fraternity student GPA = 3.02

Not a whole lot of difference in terms of GPA between Greeks and GDIs.

My D is a sorority at W&M. Neither her father nor I went Greek in college (both GDIs), so we were VERY sceptical. It's worked out well for my D. The Greek system is not nearly as closed or cultish as I feared.
