And could you give a little insight into them?

Overall, it really depends on the person. The “top rank” is more of the overall popularity and history of the particular greek group.

But here is how it is at Texas, for the most part.

For fraternities, there is a “top 4”.
(1) FIJI, SAE, KA, SIG EP.
-FIJI is probably known for having good parties and an awesome house.
-SAE, SIG EP also have great houses, and ****, so does KA.
-All of these fraternities have full pledge classes and may seem difficult to be apart of if you don’t know someone or go to a high school where a lot of dudes rush.

Under the “top 4”, I would say ATO, DELT, ZBT.
-ATO has good guys, cool parties, big house…BUT the house needs major remodeling
-In my opinion the DELT house in in a horrible location…dean keaton & speedway…***
-ZBT, Jewish house. I think it’s 90% Jewish. This house is extremely nice and decked out with plasmas…

Then, middle tier. PIKE, PSI PHY, KAPPA SIG, SIGMA CHI. I don’t really know anything about these people. These fraternities tend to pull lower ranked sororities. Anything under these, DO NOT RUSH.

Sororities- “Big 6”. Pi Phi, Kappa, Theta, Chi-O, Tri-Delt, Zeta
-Pi Phi is known for cutting girls because of the zip code you live in and care a lot about legacies. They are “top” but I don’t really consider them top, I don’t know…

I like Theta, Tri-delt, Zeta.

Under the “Big 6” is AXO and DG. Great girls in my opinion.

Then APhi, ADPi.

Then, AXiD (aka AZD, AED (letters look like this on their house), SDT, KD
-I honestly have never even heard of SDT but all I know is that it is one.

You can definitely tell the difference between top tier sorority’s and lower tier based on the girls.

If I was a girl I would be interested in Tri-Delt, AXO, Theta.
I’m a guy but I like FIJI, KA, ATO

I pretty much agree with that ^^^.

any of the business frats worth joining?

Going through rush as a girl is definitely very tough if you’re not a legacy or don’t know what you’re getting yourself into. A lot of girls who come here have mom’s who went to Texas and were in sororities, so you’re really competing against girls who have a lot of history here which is valued. However, if you do get into the Greek system, it’s great, and I’d say that you will be happy with any sorority you choose (except AZD or SDT, like what was said before).

okay so is texas spirits not a sorority? im really confused about what it is exactly.

@ cocoaluna - Texas Spirits is a “spirit group”…not a sorority. Sororities go through rush, have houses, mixers, and are a part of “Greek Life”. While the Spirits are “spirit groups” such as Absolute Texxas, Lonestar, Wranglers…etc. Spirits have more history than Absolute Texxas though, for example.

oh okayy, they have mixers and such so i thought they were. i might join that since it seems less competitive than the greeks

I actually tried out for Spirits this past semester and it is very, very competitive. You have to make an art project and they only give you 2 nights to complete it. Around 200 girls tried out and the cut it down to 60. I was lucky to be one of the 60, but then after that, you make another project and go through a crazy interview and then they cut it down to 25 and 25 girls make it. They recruit every semester though, and if you don’t make it, you can try out again without penalty like in the Greek system.

omg that does sound competetive! ughh…

Spirit groups do not mesh with the greek system (no joint parties or mixers); they have parties with other similar organizations. There are some girls in both sorority and a spirit group.

Besides that, I think this thread needs to be burned because of Psych!'s post. “anything under these, DO NOT RUSH”? are you serious? Sickening!

And the claim about Pi Phi is baseless, slanderous lies!

is wrangler darlins competeive as well?

For the sororities, at least, there is not much of a “ranking” as just some are well known, such as Tri Delt, Chi O, or Zeta. There are 14 Pan-Hellenic sororities, SDT (Sigma Delta Tau) is the only pan-Hellenic one without a house, so they do not go through formal rush. For the other sororities you have to go through formal rush before classes start.

there are also a lot of spirit groups, Spirits, Lassos, Darlins,Sweethearts, etc…
These are like sororities minus being in the greek system, and without a house. Some of them are easy to get into, and some of them are not. They typically do “mixers” with guy spirit groups, such as the Iron Spikes or the Wranglers, but occasionally they will mix with fraternities as well.

Don’t get caught up in all the rankings and other BS, every fraternity/sorority (from this point to be referred to as houses) is different. If you feel like you can see yourself at that house for the next 4 years, then by all means, go for it, if not then move on to the next house.
For sororities, VAlonghorngal said it best.
When it comes to fraternities on the other hand, its a different type of animal, some like SAE or SigEp tend to be much larger, but more exclusive often having their pledge class set up before the school year even starts. Other houses go through the informal rush process, which for guys is come to the house, party, get as drunk as you want, get a bid (if you’re lucky), go home, do it all over again. I know my fraternity is starting spring rush a bit early, but if you want on our rush list just pm me and I’ll get you on the rush list.

Rankings are baised and complete ********. It all depends on you. I rushed with Fiji at UTSA before they got shut down so when I transfered here I rushed with them again (b/c I heard they do things differently here then at UTSA) and all the guys ever wanted to do was get drunk and chase women around.

When I look for a frat, I’m looking for something that is known nationwide and has legit members (or former members) such as TKE which is HUGE and is also a frat Ronald regan and Elvis were a part of.

If you decide to rush with the “elite” have fun getting hazed and don’t expect to be able to complain if something happens to you because most of these frats have deep pockets and you won’t be able to do anything.

TKE is a joke. If by known nationwide as known nationwide to give bids to anyone with a pulse, then you are correct.

If you can’t go greek, go teke.

ali, it’s a fraternity, not a “frat”. And, there IS a difference between then and than.

Sorry, just bugs me to no end! Carry on with the bashing.

I have heard may outrageous stories of what frat brothers make you do during rush/hell week. I wanted to know what frats truly do to pledge classes in particular Fiji

No one who actually has that knowledge of a particular chapter is going to post it publically.
