greek life?

is greek life really dominant at emory? if you do not join a sorority, are you excluding yourself from the social scene? is it hard to get into sororities?

i think only 30ish % are in greek? so I doubt it matters that much

About 33% of Emory students are members of Sorority and Fraternity organizations. Recruitment doesn’t begin until 2nd semester so that gives students a chance to being acclimated with college life before deciding to rush/pledge. If you choose not to go greek it isn’t a big deal at all, you are not socially isolating yourself in any way. Aside from specific mixers the greek parties are open to pretty much anyone. I have friends that decided to go greek and I still see them just as much and we still hang out just as much. There is greek pride here but again it’s not essential to have a social life.

Also, formal “rush” is at the start of second semester.

With a 30% Greek / 70% non-Greek split, there will be plenty of people to hang with and things to do no matter which way you choose.

I think the thing to do is register for rush second semester and see for yourself what it’s like. Then you can decide which way you want to go.

it really depends, I can tell you that for guys, not joining fraternity will hinder your social life very much
