I’m just curious, how big is it at penn?
and can anyone comment on the different sororities/their reputations?
ill take anything!

Greek life at Penn is as big or little as you wish to make it. Are you curious about life in general of the process of rush/pledging?

well my older sister was greek, so i know about the general process.
im more curious about the specific ones they have at penn, and what those are like

i hear from students there that among students who go out, greek life is pretty big

by this do you mean students who go out for Rush.....become Greek themselves? Is that your meaning? Multitudes of non-greek students "go out" to a myriad of events and opportunities for socialization many of which are not associated w/ greek life.

This is the only thing I don't like about Penn. Either people stay indoors, leave the city, or have fun on campus by going to frats.

um, well max, ill tell you this: at Penn, any mode of socializing is possible. Downtown clubs are big here (thursdays in particular), frats are big (however, avoiding that scene is a completely legitimate and normal option after the first couple of weeks of the semester), dorm parties are fun, etc. What else is really possible? Penn has it all I say.

But in general, greek scene, yeah, is literally as big or small as you want it. Personally I like it (except for the cheap, nasty beer) for the tons of people and chaos. However, my friends and I have slowly been distancing ourselves from that, and we have tons of fun going downtown and getting wasted in manners of our own choosing. If you're really into it, its there for you to take advantage of. If you don't like it, sweet, theres tons of other stuff to do.

Is pledging really hardcore at Penn frats...or does it vary greatly from frat to frat...i dunno if im ready to humiliate myself..is it really worth it?

"Are you curious about life in general of the process of rush/pledging?"

i'm curious about the process of rush/pledging! i have no idea what it entails.... >_<

Bring on the chairs of ice and endless "non-violent" hazing. lol

yea..see thats the kinda stuff Id like explained robertson..and what exactly is rush..

I don't really know...I've only seen it in the movies. I think rush is when all of the frat and sorities (my spelling sux) come together and host a major fair to get freshman into their organizations. I may be wrong though.

Any other replies?

Since the OP asked for stereotypes, here goes:

Alpha Phi - nerdy fun girls
Sig Kap- sugary sweet girls
SDT - jappy girls
Tridelt - southern, high-maintenance rich girls
A Chi O - down to earth girls who drink a lot
Chi Omega - eclectic mix of people from different crowds that you wouldnt normally think would hang out together

feel free to disagree with any of these...there's one more, but i can't remember which.

Side note...Greek life isn't that big, because there's so much else to do in Philadelphia. It's bigger for guys than girls, cause there are huge frat parties some wekends but never sorority parties. However, it's definitely a presence in nightlife for those who are partiers.

Frats are a way to give status among people involved in the Greek scene and sororities are a more of a way to meet girls who are like yourself.

thanks eighteen, thats what i wanted!

is pledging difficult and really humiliating? is it worth it?
