How predominate is Greek life at Gettysburg? I am looking at it as a low match school. I have no interest in joining a frat/sorority, will I be left out?

I’m a first year here now (nobody is referred to as a freshman) so I don’t have the best idea just yet, but I can say that so far, there is plenty to do without going to a frat party (obv. I can’t rush). It really depends upon what you decide to study; I’m going pre-med and will probably double major, so I’m already on overload with work, giving me no need to worry about being bored during the week! But for weekends, you can basically do what you want and will have fun, the people are great, there are many clubs, the common rooms are great places to gather if you don’t want to constantly party (me), and overall everybody is in a great mood, so there is no need to join a frat/sorority. Also, keep an open mind, you may decide you want to rush once you get to college–not all frats are about drinking, and what’s living if you don’t truly immerse yourself in new situations?

findthehiggs -
separating rushing/pledging (soph yr) from attending parties…i’d like to ask you about attending parties
some colleges tell frats to not let freshmen in to parties during their first year or sometimes just the first semester -
others don’t have a policy, but the frats only want freshmen girls, and the guys have trouble getting in…
…and some places it’s not too tough for freshman guys to get in to parties

can you or some of your friends help me understand where gettysburg is on this, either through your experience or from talking with others
thanks very much for your help!!

mrb3,
here is the breakdown:
there are a good number of frats on campus, and each varies among the “rules” upon which you stated. some don’t let any first-year guys in, others require a ratio of girls to guys (3:1), and still others require nothing more than a polite attitude to gain admission. in essence, there is one for everybody depending on your tastes and personal characteristics. that being said, the notoriously better ones are normally reserved for upperclassmen only, but you will have fun regardless of which you attend, if you even attend at all. there are a bunch of other things to do, as stated before, if you choose not to party, so i implore that there is nothing to worry about when it comes to this subject
hoped this helped!
