Greek life

I am an international student, so that's why I am not really grasping the concept of sororities/fraternities.

I've heard that if you are a social person, which I am, you should definitely join the greek life. I am sure that I want to make the best out of my college experience, but, i do neither want to drink, do drugs or hookups, be part of hazing or sacrifice my life values in order to obtain a higher social status.

Why should i "rush"? What are the pros of being a sorority girl?

And what's exactly the sisterhood/brotherhood?

“but, i do neither want to drink, do drugs or hookups, be part of hazing or sacrifice my life values in order to obtain a higher social status.”

you aren’t a sorority girl. you can easily make friends and be social without joining greek life. only 18% of 25,000 undergrads decide to partake in the first place, and as far as i know 4/5 of UM students aren’t shut-ins.

nomadba3 has a point… you can find friends/be social w/out going greek. Going greek will affect your morals in many ways and in your case “higher social status”.
