greek life?

I was never interested in greek life until i visited a campus this year, i think im going to go through rush but im not sure if its right for me, what type of stuff should i research?

stay away, think for yourself…go to school challenge yourself .skip the greek stuff (IMO)

you’ll get much less bigoted info (IMO)

As a Greek myself, I would encourage you to join a fraternity or sorority, but it’s really up to you. I would encourage you to rush, check out which ones you like, and go from there. If you don’t think it’s for you after you’ve rushed, then you don’t have to join one. It’s that simple, and you will probably make some friends during rush (as I did).

Being in a fraternity is more than the stereotypical parties and other things popular culture and zobroward associates with Greek life. I’ve taken up leadership positions within the fraternity and within my university’s IFC, I’ve met some people who I can honestly say will be my brothers for the rest of my life, I’ve been able to give back to the community through philanthropy events and community service, and I’ve also expanded my connections with people in the business world and government. I’ve done all this while having a pretty good time, too. We have parties, exchanges with other sororities, brotherhood events, retreats, you name it.

Greeks at my university also generally have a higher average GPA than non-Greeks, so don’t fall for the whole “but it’s going to ruin your academics” spill.

I would suggest researching each fraternity or sorority before going through rush. Keep in mind each individual chapter’s dues, new member education process (pledging), requirements to join, etc. and ask questions about all this when you’re going through the process.

if you have the time and money for it, rush for it.
if rush sucks for you, don’t do it.
if you have ANY doubts or second thoughts by the time rush ends (and you got your bid), don’t do it.

Just try it. If you don’t click with any if the chapters during rush, then you can drop. Greek life has many positives like tiger stated. And I can honestly say I’ve become a more outgoing, confident person after two years in the Greek system. No regrets.
