Greek Life

How is Greek Life at Syracuse? Does it dominate the social scene?

i herd it does.

yes, it does. It's great if you're into that thing. Rather lonely if you're not.

gomestar, could u explain it more? so i don't join a soririty at syr, i won't fit in? or have fun? ( i might join a black sorority if i can afford it/have time, but i'm sure if it's the same as joining a regular sorority.)

whut. aka and delta are only black sororities? the sororities are split by color?

yea youll have fun girl. u aint gotta be a greek to have fun.

there are some ethnic sororities and some regular ones. i just want to join a black one to meet other black people on campus and they seem less crazier than the regular ones. lol. atleast, i hope so.

cornell your goin to syracuse???

i didnt kno there were 'ethnic sororities'. so theres black aka's and white aka's? and theyre different? i might wanna join a sorority. but i dont think i would need to to meet other blacks on campus. we all tend to find each other somehow.

I never saw so much misinformation given in one thread. You do NOT need to join a frat or sorority to have a good social life.

Yes, frats and sororities are big,but plenty of people don't belong to them. In addition, many people who do join them are still friends with those that don't belong to a frat or sorority.

I know this because my friend's son and daughter attended Syracuse and didn't join any frat or sorority. They all had a great time!

yea i just said she doesnt need to join one to have fun.

thank you taxguy for clearing that up.

melo, i don't know where i'm going yet. i'm still waiting on decisions and hopefully fin aid from my top 4 choices cornell, gwu, syracuse, and vtech. and pratt even though i don't plan on going there. my 5th choice is uga if i don't get into any of my 4 choices.

Wannagotocornell, what is your proposed major?

interior design

Wannagotocornel, why didn't you apply to University of Cincinnati, which is rated number one by Design Intelligence Magazine? Also, Pratt institute is rated number two. Arizona State also has a highly ranked program.

The undergraduate rankings as of 2006 are as follows:

University of Cincinnati, DAAP School

Pratt Institute.

Cornell University

Kansas State University

Arizona State University
6.University of Taxas at Austin

Syracuse University

Graduate Interior Design Rankings are as follows:

RISD
2.Pratt Institute
3.Cornell University
4.SCAD
5.Syracuse University
6.Arizona State University and Taxas Tech

University of Oregon, they even have a graduate program that is FIDER accredited.

NOTE: GWU isn't in the top 10 nor is Virginia Tech.

i've been accepted to ucin. but don't really want to go there bcuz i don't like how area around ucin has been described and plus it's somewhat far. i'm not really into the rankings because except for like the top 5 the rankings seem to change from year to year. but i liked gwu when i visited them and was told they had a good program. vtech is the cheapest school for me (and was previously ranked). also, as long as it's fider accredited that's my main concern.

For the record, I and my wife, who is a published interior designer, visited Univ. of Cincinnati. We were both blown away by their facilities. We really liked the school. She also told me that it has a MUCH better reputation for design than either GWU or Syracuse. Moreover, their have guaranteed PAID coops for 1.5 years as well with a strong job placement as a result of the coops.

As for the surrounding area outside the school, I can't really disagree with you there. However, they don't have that much crime on campus itself. They have done an amazing job using lots of lighting etc. of keeping most crime away.

However, it's your call!

thanks for your input, i will take it into consideration. i just don't like how everyone has said the area around uc is really bad and how it's a commuter school.

you certainly dont have to join one to fit in or have fun. What I really mean is most of the fun on weekends revolves around the frat/sorority party scene. The majority of students will flock to the parties, so if you're really not into that you'll probably feel a little excluded.

omg cornell. uga was one of my choices too. i got into there and syracuse. but of course im goin to cuse!

that's cool. i wish i knew where i was going. lol.
