Greek Life

How is Greek Life at Duke? How competitive is frat rush? Do a lot of kids get bids or are the top tier frats exclusive?

I think he’s asking for guys and that link talks about girls.

Anyway, there are like 4 “top tier frats” and then 3 pretty good ones that still mix with the top sororities the most. Rush doesn’t happen until after Christmas break, so you have the first semester to get to know people. Each fraternity will probably take 20 something guys, some more some less, but that means there will be over 100 (130ish maybe) guys (out of 850 or so, but not all rush, and not all rush top fraternities). It helps to know people, but you can do that first semester, especially if you hang out with freshman girls, who get invites to parties pretty easily. Also, your roommate or hallmate might know someone, and you’ll go out with them and get into a pretty good party. Even if you don’t know someone, you can still meet the brothers at rush, there are always guys who get in that way. If you don’t get into one of those four or seven fraternities, there are still many other decent ones that throw big parties with lots of girls.
