Greek Life??

Ok so I am very confused to rush or not. I actually heard that the sororities at USC are not very good. Please can someone tell me if this is true?

At first when I heard this I thought of rushing my sophomore year. But then I read somewhere that they don't give bids to sophomores. So now I don't know of I should rush or not. Can someone please help me out!!

Every sorority has its own personality and some will be better fit than others. Some people will claim that specific ones are “top” but that is an opinion only. Like college, it is a matter of fit for your personality. There are some sororities at USC that are not as well known but that doesn’t mean they’re “not good”. Sororities also tend to be popular by region. My older D was involved in Greek life at different school, and one there would not be considered “top” here in SC but was very well thought of in other states. The USC chapter of my D’s sorority is considered on of best - she often heard about it at her school.

Leave other people opinions aside and give it a try if you are interested. Just go in with open mind. And they do give bids to sophomores. My USC D (not involved in greek life) has 2 roommates who rushed as sophomores and got great bids from very popular sororities. One has had leadership roles so it didn’t hold her back to do it as sophomore. Another roommate rushed as freshman and joined and enjoyed it but ended up deactivating because of time commitments in other areas.

If you do rush and decide not to accept a bid, remember that only around 30% of girls are in sororities. There are other ways to meet people. There are also Christian sororities and service sororities if they appeal.

Both of your pieces of info are wrong, imo.

The first part: USC is a southern school and has a great Greek life. I, personally, am not Greek, but I have friends who are and I’ve seen the Greek Village. It’s beautiful. The sorority life is very active and there are “tiers” of sororities, which people say certain sororities are better than others. It all matters according to personality.

Also, I know more than one person who ended up joining a sorority as a sophomore. It certainly is less common, but I definitely know girls who did it that way and love their sororities.
