Hello! I recently toured auburn and fell in love with the campus, however, I have heard from many people, the social life is dominated by the Greek system. I will not be rushing, so I was wondering if any parents of AU students or AU students could answer; if you don’t participate in Greek Life can you still have a social life? Or is everyone mostly focused on that? Is that the only way people hang out / meet each other? Thanks so so much!

I’m a parent of a non-Greek son and no, life is not dominated by the Greek system at Auburn. It is quite prominent but not at all dominant. Having said that - you will not do well to sit in your room and wait for someone to come along and ask you to be their friend. As in any social situation - you have to put yourself out there. You will find your way at Auburn with some friends, classmates, study groups, and from any many number of clubs of interest. There are also professional fraternities for your major that will keep you active as well or working on campus. Auburn is probably the most friendly, well mannered university in the SEC IMHO but you need to take the initiative to make your own friends. Really, really nice kids going to school here.

Thank you so much, that’s so so helpful!! I definitely plan on participating in other non-greek clubs!!!
